The video is about the right to vote of freed African Americans after the Civil War and about Jim Crow Laws.

The second part of the video focuses on the 15^th Amendment.

Southerners bypassed the 15^th Amendment:

-       - Colored people had to pay taxes to have the right to vote.

-       - Freed African Americans had to pass a test to prove they could read and write.

- They had to be rich.

So, many African Americans couldn’t vote but poor uneducated Whites (couldn’t vote) either.

Jim Crow Laws were bypassed by the Grandfather Clause: if their grandfather had voted, they could vote too. 

So, poor uneducated Whites could vote.
